The concept centers around minimal environmental disruption, as the structure rises gently above the ever-shifting sands and tides, respecting the delicate coastal ecosystem while providing a much-needed amenity for beachgoers.
Drawing inspiration from the organic curves and protective form of a seashell—commonly found on beaches—Bourim envisioned this design as a dignified, functional space that offers beachgoers an elevated experience. Rather than creating a stark, utilitarian structure, the design incorporates soft, flowing lines and a minimalistic aesthetic, ensuring that it harmonizes with the surrounding landscape. The exterior features clean, modern finishes that not only evoke a sense of elegance but also blend into the natural beauty of Waikiki Beach without overwhelming it.
The raised structure serves a dual purpose: it not only minimizes the building’s environmental footprint but also creates a sense of openness and airiness. By lifting the facility off the ground, the design allows for natural airflow beneath the structure, aiding in ventilation and keeping the space cool without excessive mechanical systems.
